At and around the Inn at Deep Creek, we have plenty of options for any holiday celebration, and that includes treating yourself to a cooked meal at a local restaurant like Ace’s Run! Open from 11:00 AM until 8:00 PM on Thanksgiving Day; guests can treat themselves to traditional Thanksgiving dinners, which include roasted turkey, alongside Ace’s regular full menu. From skiing to cozying up by the fire, the Deep Creek Lake area is the perfect setting for a Thanksgiving retreat.
Thanksgiving is, of course, an integral part of the holiday season. The Deep Creek Lake area transforms into a winter wonderland as the snow falls, with antique stores, family-owned businesses, charming restaurants, with our boutique hotel serving as home-base. Around the holiday season, Deep Creek comes to life with visitors and locals coming together and enjoying the holidays. Relax before Christmas, spend some down-time with family, and enjoy celebrating in a place that feels made for the holidays. With Thanksgiving meals pre-made and ready for you, all you have to do is sit back, relax, and enjoy.
Deep Creek Holiday Fun
For many people, Thanksgiving marks the beginning of Christmas. Black Friday often causes chaos, and the stress of holiday shopping can be overwhelming. Garrett County has two events on Black Friday to distract from the mayhem, and both are lots of fun and family-friendly. The Honi-Honi Bar hosts an annual Christmas tree lighting on November 30th, 2019 (the Saturday following Thanksgiving this year). With hot chocolate, live entertainment, and even Santa Claus himself, this holiday tradition is made for locals and guests alike.
From November 29th to 30th, 2019, the Festival of Trees will take over the Garrett County Fairgrounds. Described “Garrett County’s holiday kick-off event,” this festival welcomes families to gather and celebrate beautifully decorated trees, in addition to other holiday motifs like stunning Christmas cookies and wreaths. This schedule on their website gives a comprehensive breakdown of the vast array of events that will be offered during the two-day festival. Everything from breakfast with Santa to a “Buy It Now” section for “hundreds of quality items at great prices”! What a fantastic place for some holiday shopping. The Festival of Trees will conclude with a “Grand Finale Live Auction” where bidders will vie for their favorite trees (or other beautifully decorated item). The best part about this event is that proceeds benefit the Dove Center.

Thanksgiving in the Deep Creek Lake area
For Thanksgiving Day in Deep Creek, there are excellent options that don’t involve you cooking for the entire family, or having to be the host with the most this season! Wisp Resort offers a fully catered Thanksgiving, sides and all, for under $200! This option allows you to bring the food back with you, but for those looking to hold no responsibility over the day, Ace’s Run is the place for you. A nominal fee will get you into the restaurant where you will be served a tasty Thanksgiving dinner, with traditional sides and everything you expect from the day! While reservations will be accepted, they are not required for this delicious Thanksgiving experience. Ace’s Run is affiliated with Trader’s Coffee House, which is open for limited hours on Thanksgiving day, so you can stop by for a cup of joe anytime from 7:00 AM until 1:00 PM. It’s also connected to Brenda’s Pizzeria, which will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, but it is well worth the visit during your time in Deep Creek! Ace’s Run is a local favorite to Garrett County natives because of its pleasant ambiance and delicious food.
Ace’s Run Open Kitchen Nights
Ace’s Run has a few open-kitchen nights where guests can personalize their meals before watching them get made! Wednesdays are pasta night, where guests can choose their pasta, protein, and sauce. Every Friday is “Stir Fryday,” which means guests watch as their made-to-order, Asian inspired dinner is prepared in front of them! So, while we highly recommend visiting for your Thanksgiving meal, there is no “wrong” time to stop by Ace’s Run while you’re staying with us. These ingenious options make dinner fun and entertaining, not to mention that everything tastes delicious! Ace’s Run is only a few minutes’ drive from the Inn at Deep Creek.
Mountain Town Fun
The cold weather isn’t for everyone, but for those of us who thrive in fall and winter, this time of year is the best! And Deep Creek is undoubtedly the place to be. With Wisp Resort less than a 10-minute-drive from our hotel, skiing, and snowboarding are easily accessible, and full-day lift tickets are only $84 for adults. Wisp provides ski and snowboard rentals for those who aren’t avid skiers but still want to hit the slopes. Also found at Wisp during the colder seasons are a variety of super fun winter activities, like snow tubing, riding the mountain coaster, cross country skiing, and snowshoeing.
If you don’t know how to ski or snowboard, or if you want to experience other winter fun, this is the place to visit! After a long day of frolicking in the snow, your room at the Inn at Deep Creek will be warm and toasty, the perfect place to kick off your boots and relax.
Garrett County, Maryland, and the Deep Creek Lake area also have insanely fun activities like ice-fishing, riding in a horse-drawn sleigh, and snowmobiling. More information on any of these is available by contacting our front desk, or simply asking when you’re here! Our staff is well-informed and happy to help with anything you might need, even if it’s merely learning more about a sleigh ride. With so much to do, you won’t be concerned with the weather! Just bring a cozy coat, some mittens, and a hat, and you’ll enjoy everything that Deep Creek has to offer! Even for warm-weather lovers, the experiences here are worth facing the cold.

Thanksgiving is a holiday for gratitude, and spending time with family and friends is often highly celebrated during this time. There’s nothing wrong with taking a break from Thanksgiving this year and treating yourself and your loved ones to a traditional turkey dinner that’s been made for you as opposed to having cooked it yourself. With Thanksgiving on Thursday, November 28th, and local activities like the Honi-Honi Tree Lighting and the Festival of Trees following on November 29th and 30th, your weekend will be full of fun and laughter for all ages.
We hope to see you here!
