This February, join us for the 22nd annual Deep Creek Dunk! This annual event supports the Special Olympics of Maryland, and every participant helps them reach their $350,000 goal.
Don’t be afraid of a little chill – take a winter vacation to Deep Creek Lake in Oakland, Maryland! Charming restaurants, great skiing, opportunities for snow tubing, antiquing, and so many other fantastic activities await you here. On February 22, participants will gather from all around to enjoy this annual event. Dunkers take a daring dip into a nearly frozen Deep Creek Lake, to show their ability to withstand the freezing temperatures, and to support a worthy cause!
For a Good Cause
The Deep Creek Dunk, now going on year 22, is an annual charity event whose proceeds go directly to the Special Olympics of Maryland. The Special Olympics is “a global movement of people creating a new world of inclusion and community.” This incredible organization allows athletes to compete who otherwise may not be able to, and gives them a safe space to do what they love. The Deep Creek Dunk supports Maryland athletes specifically, and this event will directly benefit the 8,033 athletes of Special Olympics Maryland. It costs $75 to enter, but participants can also pay by fundraising at least $75! Everyone who participates will receive a 2020 Dunk sweatshirt.
Keep Warm!
This wintertime tradition goes known by many names, most commonly the Polar Bear Plunge! Participants dash into icy cold water and “dunk” for charity. If you’re already signed up, or if you’re thinking of participating, be sure to stay safe! Bring a bag with some warm clothes to change into, as well as a towel for quickly drying off – or change into your complimentary Dunk sweatshirt. We also suggest bringing another waterproof container for your wet clothes! Remember to have fun – while this event is for charity, it’s a goofy time, and we guarantee you’ll enjoy a lot of laughter here.
Don’t worry about the cold for long! After your frigid morning, head back to the Inn at Deep Creek. With fireplaces in rooms, throw a log on the fire and warm up. In both our lobby and your room, you’ll find fresh hot coffee and tea, and the rustic rooms are warm and welcoming. We encourage our guests to join the warm-hearted dunkers and take the plunge this February in Deep Creek.
